I have an amazing yellow/white lab (pure), who needs a loving family. He is one of my fosters who came off a transport from MS last weekend. He is 14 months old and an absolute Cupcake! Dog, cat, child and oppossum friendly. He is very calm (especially for a lab!) And very smart! We are getting attached and want to find him a home quickly (already have 4 dogs) He has been abused, which astonishes me, and has spent some time in an animal trap (scarred leg). I'm guessing the oppossum friendly part is what got him in trouble with his previous owner who probably had visions of a ferocious hunting dog and dumped him when he went belly up to a duck.

We're resolved to feeding the incessant little rodents that populate our yard and deck, partly to keep them happy while feeding songbirds.

Having finished our jar of a popular brand of peanut butter, we decided to have a little fun with our resident squirrels. Tossing a handful of wildbird food into the sticky, but mostly empty peanut butter container, we've been having a little fun watching them contend with peanut butter stuck to the roofs of their little mouths.

February is Litter Prevention Month

Celebrate Spay and Neuter month by spaying or neutering at least one dog or cat. You'll save potentially thousands of lives. 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized each year due to a chronic problem in this country: pet overpopulation.

This tragic predicament could be easily avoided if each pet owner spayed or neutered their pet. It'’s safe, affordable and improves pet health. Yet many pet owners say they simply have not bothered to do it yet!

In addition to decreased populationn, there are several benefits to the cat to whom is being spayed or neutered.

Neutered Male Cat Benefits are:

• Neutered cats are less likely to spray strong urine
• Neutered cats will lose the urge to fight
• Neutered cats will be less likely to try to escape
• Neutered cats will not suffer the abscesses from fighting
• Neutered cats will be less likely to contract diseases such as FeLV and FIV
• Neutered cats will not be subject to testicular cancer
• Neutered cats will not likely develop "stud tail," caused by overactive glands in the tail

Kitty to the Rescue

Tabbies are particularly smart, but who knew they could dial 911? Owner attempted to train kitty, Tommy, to dial 911 but wasn't sure he comprehended.

I think the lessons paid off.

You see, it just cements my theory that the darn cats are listening you when you bark commands, but they're not obeying due to other demanding obligations in their full lives.

The 3WiseCats are getting a bit restless as they grow older, so this prevents us from creating any more outfits for holiday photo shoots. We were surprised we could get Eros & the Twins to sit on the mantel all at once for the great shot!

Upon our decision to keep two of the new born kittens -Pip & Chardonnay- we realized we had to augment the 3WiseCats into 3WiseCats & Company!

3WiseCats Adopt Kittens!

Soon after Lisa & Andrew were married -a week later actually- 3 Maine Coons & an Ocicat were rescued at 4 weeks and brought into the home for fostering.

Thor, Felioni, Chardonnay & Pip were bottle fed and gradually introduced to Eros, Bacchus, & Cheshire.

Eros wasn't all that crazy having 4 more mouths to compete for food,
Cheshire ran away from the 4, and
Bacchus wanted little buddies so he turned out to be quite the nurturing big brother.

The Origination of the 3 Wise Cats

Back when I met Andrew, I revealed to him my passion for dressing kittens when I was a kid. Because I was just a kid inside a woman's body, I still felt the need to dress my, now "our cats." Initially, Andrew wasn't too crazy about the thought but I continued to tease him with the idea.

I'm not talking about dressing them and taking them for walks downtown! I know the span of the cat's attention and I've got about 1 minute (with lots of treats) to take a few photos.

Later in the year, we decided to make joint holiday cards. After a few minutes of brainstorming, we came up with actually dressing up the pussies. What would be the theme? We thought of everything (Santa & his elves, etc) but the fact that there were three (3) of them: Eros, Bacchus, & Cheshire, it made sense to keep in theme of the 3 Wise Men.

Hence, the 3WiseCats was born.
