DeTasselling the Holiday

Chardonnay has decided that the new life-size tree is a fine idea, but it's the tree skirt that is more appealing -specially the tassels.

Chosey Cat Burglar Choses Panther Toy

Frankie the cat has been stealing soft toys in Swindon for the past year.

“They're all soft toys for cats I think, although I could be wrong. About 15 of them are all the same leopard,” the owner says, "and he's quite pleased with himself -he lets out a big meow upon returning."

Rescuing the Presidential Decision: New White House Dog

It's just been revealed that within the Obama household, they are now inviting the decision to adopt a dog. Because all First Families have a First Dog, Malia and Sasha insist their dad now acquiesce to their plees for a royal puppy. It's heartening to hear that Barack and Michelle are definitely considering a rescue dog from a shelter.

Kitty Saved by Mouth to Meow-th Resuscitate

Bittersweet news about a kitty who is resuscitated by a fireman. Kitty is okay and plenty of additional pets found in building are reported to be fine, too. Unfortunately, 2 kitties didn't get the same chance.

Call of the Wild: Transient Feline Squatters Move In

Honey! Come meet the new neighbors!!

Did you ever wonder what happened to all those homes that were becoming increasingly abandoned due to foreclosures? Wonder no more. Since Ted and Jane moved out, the wild have moved in. They've found a food and water source: the koi pond in the back yard plus a spacious and elegant place to raise their kittens.

These cats have taste!

More on the story at the LATimes.

Hurricane Preparedness

We've just bought a 3rd crate to house all 3 of our cats separately should disaster strike.

Please take the time to review your emergency supplies for your pets -keep at least one week supply of food, water, and medicine for your family members. Also, pick up a few of the microfiber towels to wick away moisture from your pet, otherwise she may go into shock from over exposure.

Also, the Humane Society of the US has a special update video featuring the director during these tumultuous times.

Bacchus & the Peacock Feather

Finally figured out that my video was private. So I published it today to add a little levity in your life.

On occasion, we'll see him spin so fast that he bonks into chairs, doors, and walls. Once in awhile, we'll hear those collisions thru-out the night, too. Hilarious.

Enjoy!

The Pet Doctor Will Take Your Questions

Our local station: WRAL TV has a feature called 'Ask Anything' on their Web site allowing us civilians to ask questions of professionals. This week, it happens to be a local veterinarian.

Check to see if your local station has the same feature.

I wondered if there's a chance she'd address why Bacchus doesn't do the dishes when told?

Leopard vs Crocodile

First, I am not a fan of the Darwin scenes -ever! But, we found this astonishing event: a leopard attacking and killing a crocodile as photographed by Hal Brindley - it's simply incredible.

Nothing too gory which my eyes cannot handle.

While viewing, Chardonnay took notes as he wrestled a small mouse in honor my birthday last month. "I" had to rescue the mouse and return it to the wild.

Urban Cat Walk

Walking kitties are found in Manhattan, but there are very few of them.

NYT: Manhattan Cat On a Leash

I bought my late kitty, Clawedmeister, a harness to walk him outside -while still alive, of course! Normally, this gray and white cat had a sweet disposition, but take him outside and he turned into a ferocious little bastard.

Once, while walking Clawed just outside my apartment building, I had this college kid approach me attempting to solicit tickets to a night club. The kid thought I was an easy mark, I guess because I was outside seemingly walking a nice little dog. Little did he realize that I was tugging on a leash that disappeared beneath a pee-soaked holly bush with an angry cat on the other end. Clawed was making the most horrendous primal howls and digging his heels into the dirt to prevent us from returning inside -the kid was just desperate to make a sale, but at what cost?

Eventually, Clawed came out hissing and flailing his claws as I held his harness and hovered him over the stairs as we made our way to the 2nd floor. If this kid ever had a thought to attack an unsuspecting victim in her apartment, I'm thinking he probably abandoned that thought since I had a cat and knew how to use it.

Once inside, I had to drop Clawed to the floor and let him run around for an hour to calm down. It was hilarious to see him still donning the harness and the leash dragging behind him.

Cat People Win!!

Studies are finding that there are health benefits to being owned by cats and that cats provide unconditional love. Some medical experts are consistently perplexed by the exact reasons why cat ownership could reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

One woman claims that while chronically battling fibromyalgia, her cat came to her when she was feeling her worst and eased her pain by simply purring on her shoulder. I know that I've experienced symptom relief from my cats who have curled up behind me and emitted heat into my lower back and eased some pain.

I love my pets and can't do without them.

Artist Spotter: Nancy of MotleyMutton

I happened upon a fabulous felting artist who recreates animals, both domestic and wild, in familiar shapes. I fell in love with this kitten, alas, it was already sold.

You can find anything from a family of possums, mischievous mice, to daring dragons.

Happy New Year! Home at Last

We've just returned home from our belated honeymoon in Europe. We haven't travelled in such a long time purely for pleasure that this was a nice break.

Somebody's happy we're home...

Infamous Bacchus

We had to leave the pussycats in the hands of my MIL & FIL, but they seemed to have managed without us -although I know they're super thrilled to have their staff back! After all, I know when Bacchus has itchy back and only I can provide relief when needed. We know to tap the sparkley snowflake at the window to provide a room filled with rainbow effects for Chardon'nay 'nay. Speak softly to Cheshire and know when to use the voice of doom to return the alpha state to me. :)

If you'd like to read more about our travels, please head to "CreativeGoddess" and begin in mid-December; I'm updating all the time, so please check back frequently.

Hope to see you there!!

Toxic Indoor Plants

I thought it might be worthy to provide some useful info about toxic indoor plants. If nothing else, this makes me feel better about my black thumbs and the plants I usually kill.

If you're not sure what plants you have, Google the name and select "image" at the top of Google's top nav to match the appropriate plant image to this list. Make sure to check your house for the following indoor plants:

Amaryllis - Stomach and intestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea)
Azalea - Incoordination, trembling, collapse
Cactus - Punctures skin, infection
Caladium - Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shaking head, difficulty breathing
Creeping Charlie - Vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, cramps
Easter Lily - All parts can cause kidney failure
Dieffenbachia - Affects central nervous system
Ivy - Vomiting, diarrhea, excitable behavior
Mistletoe - Ingesting berries can cause vomiting, diarrhea, blistering in the mouth, difficulty breathing
Philodendron - Same as Caladium
Poinsettia - Same as Mistletoe

This list is not exhaustive, but I believe one can find that the plants listed above are the most common plants around the house at the holidays, some may even be found in pretty arrangements for delivery.

Within the animal poision control center, ASPCA has a good list that does a decent job of explaining the type of plant one might have -even photos when available.

Nuremburg Zoo
Photos provided by the 'Tiergarten Nuernberg' zoo in Germany this week show a polar bear baby sleeping and being bottle fed.

The cub was removed from her mom on the fear that she might be harmed. Currently unnamed, the cub may just make a special friend for Knut, currently residing in Berlin.

Go see more photos!!
